Campbell, Archibald
Five vols spanning 1889 to 1895. Edited by Alfred Nutt. This is a classic collection of folk and hero tales, orally collected in the West Highlands by the Reverend D. Maclnnes, the Reverend James Macdougall and of course Lord Archibald Campbell himself. Not just tales of the Fianna but clan traditions, feuds, fables, local legends of Argyll, and the war dress of the Celt. Waifs and Strays is a miscellany of storytelling and an essential part of the work carried out by Nineteenth Century collectors. This is a first edition set, not a print-on-demand reprint. In Gaelic with English translation and English notes, index of Ossianic runs, incidents etc. Vol I has a library number to spine and a blind library stamp to two pages; the other vols have no library markings. All have wear to spine top and bottom, some marking to the tan linen boards, age-mottling to prelims, neat name to ffep, very occasional pencil Gaelic annotation, but are generally VG for age. Further details on request. p
