Book Conditions:
In common with other booktraders we use the following abbreviations to describe books:
Fine: as new.
VG: one or two signs of having been read, but no serious blemishes, generally very good condition.
Good: o.k., but not very good, signs of ageing or fading or other damage (usually described).
Fair: showing definite signs of wear and tear.
Reading copy: It's all there and it's legible, but that's about all we guarantee.

Making A Purchase
To purchase, or express interest in a book, browse our catalogue, and click on any items that you wish to buy and put them into the shopping cart. After you have finished your selection, click on "Order" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to be able to satisfy the order. .
We will then send you an email confirming exact postage costs, and asking for confirmation before processing credit card details.
If you are shopping from outside the UK, place your order and your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency.
We accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards. At the end of the check-out you will be connected to our secure server and asked to fill in your credit card details. You may alternatively send your credit card information via phone or fax
Postage is charged extra at cost. We also accept payment by UK cheque. Switch. We can also take Euros in cash (notes only).

Delivery Schedule
When you order a book from us we will get back to you, usually within a working day, to give postage costs. We will also ask you to confirm your order (unless you have indicated that you need the book immediately) before processing your card details and sending the order.
Back Orders
We can also search (without charge) for rare or out of print items if we do not have them in stock.
Catalogue descriptions are necessarily very brief. Please do contact us should you want further details of any book before purchase, or for advice on our stock. Only a small percentage of our stock is catalogued, so ask if you can't find the title you want - we may have it, or be able to find it for you.
Credit Card Security
We operate a secure server for you to send your credit card details to us on. If you prefer, you can also phone and give them to either of us. After receiving credit card details we print them out and delete all records from our computers. After processing we burn all paper records in our wood burning stove. We believe this gives the maximum degree of protection possible.
Guarantee
If a book is not as described contact us and we will refund your cost including postage. We are a member of Wigtown Book Trades' Association and subscribe to their Code of Conduct

Privacy Policy
Byre Books never gives out names and addresses to a third party for any reason. We may, however, keep your name and address on our computer for ease of future billing, or for contacting you in the future. If you would prefer us not to do this, please tell us.
